Pendant is not marked or signed but is believed to be gold filled. Pendant measures approximately 1.5 inch long (including bail) by 1 inch wide, and has an approximate depth of 0.2 inch.
The word "Amerikaner" is the same as "double" and this was a process of double plating an item which was created during the Austrian Empire period (prior to 1865) and assured a lifetime glow. It was used because pure gold was becoming scarce due to fine metals needed for the war efforts.
Andreas Daub founded his family business in 1872, in the jewelry capital of Germany, the city of Pforzheim. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company became one of the leading companies in the German jewelry industry and one of the leading jewelry companies in Europe. Kurt Daub, the fifth generation jeweler, leads the company today.
Noteworthy, the “Amerikaner” stamp is guaranteed to indicate the presence of gold in the product. High quality hand-made vintage jewelry hallmarked “Andreas Daub” is rare and highly collectible now.
We presume that this piece of jewelry may be from the 1930s-1940s, possibly earlier. As you can see, both the chain and locket have held up very well over time and are excellent condition for their age. Please see all photos.
