Vintage 1930s Art Deco German Allemagne Reliquary Pocket Shrine St Theresa
Circa 1930s, possibly earlier. Made in Germany, most likely for the French market.
Side of shrine is stamped "ALLEMAGNE", French word for "Germany". Inside of shrine is stamped "PRGM".
Designed to be a portable altar, carried for devotion, comfort, and protection. Particularly popular among soldiers during the late 1800s through World War II. The small metal (most likely led) figure tucked inside is Virgin Mary, and she is stamped "FRANCE". Shrine opens and closes securely.
Underside is inscribed "I AM A CATHOLIC IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT KINDLY NOTIFY A PRIEST".
Measures approximately 1.3 inches long by 0.55 inch wide.
Weighs approximately 8.81 grams.
