Rare Vintage German Silver Scent or Snuff Container Hinged Pendant with Celluloid Mouthpiece Insert Snuff Straw Inhaler Vial Pre-WWII
Circa 1920s-1930s, pre-WWII. Made in Germany.
Made from German Silver (aka Nickel Silver), which is not silver at all but has the appearance of sterling. German Silver is comprised of copper, nickel, & zinc.
Body of pendant is stamped “GERMAN SILVER” (“GER” appears to have been worn off and it reads “MAN SILVER”).
Jump ring/bail of pendant is stamped “GERMANY”.
Pendant features a hinged lid and was likely used as a snuff container, pill holder, or miniature scent vessel. The included plastic insert has a small hole on each end, potentially used to inhale aromatic powder, oils, or medicine.
Pendant measures approximately 0.8 inch long by 0.55 inch wide (at widest point). Tapered body — base measures approximately 0.45 inch long by 0.3 inch wide, and top/lid measures approximately 0.55 inch long by 0.45 inch wide.
Plastic or Celluloid insert measures approximately 0.8 inch long.
In good condition with light wear & patina consistent with age. Please see all photos.
