1920s Art Deco Sterling Silver Camphor Glass Rhinestone Paste Pendant Necklace
Circa 1920s-1930s, Art Deco.
Underside of pendant is stamped "STERLING". No visible maker's marks.
Clasp of chain is stamped "STERLING"..
Chain measures approximately 17.9 inches long and has a spring ring clasp.
Pendant measures approximately 1 inch long (including bail) by 0.5 inch wide.
Necklace weighs approximately 3.13 grams, in its entirety.
Camphor glass is clear glass that has been treated with hydrofluoric acid vapors to give it a frosted, whitish appearance. This effect resembles gum camphor, hence the name. Camphor glass was used throughout the decorative arts to make bottles, glass objects, lampshades and more. In jewelry, the glass was often cast with a star pattern on the reverse to give it a radiant appearance. Camphor glass was made to imitate the carved rock crystal quartz that was popular from the mid-nineteenth century through the 1930s.
In good condition with no noticeable flaws. Silver may have some patina as expected with age & wear, but can be polished if you desire. Please see all photos.
